Apple pies

Apple pie may well be the ultimate death weapon in this show. 'Cos, come on, a pie. And an apple. You know, the Devil's instrument of the human race corruption.

With this in mind, the expression "apple-pie life" (a metaphor of poster-like happy family life) immediately acquires a rather sinister connotation. No wonder Sam and Dean normally hate this notion. "All that apple-pie, family crap", to quote Sam in the episode "Swap Meat".

In the light of this interpretation, Sam's advice to Dean in "Swan Song" to go and have some apple-pie life with his girlfriend and her kid sounds pretty eerie. See, the Dean and Lisa relationship was doomed from the start! Kiddng.

Vancouver

Vancover is Canada's own Hollywood, considering how many TV shows are being filmed on its locations.

"Supernatural"'s Midwest towns by two-lane roads are actually Canadian, and if I ever go to the Maple Leaf State, I bet every fir tree will look like a quote from the series. If anything, this limitation -- being tied to one geographical area -- helps create a strong visual continuity in "Supernatural". You won't mistake their smalltowns for those in any other show.

Also, both Mid-Russia and Canada are relatively at the same latitude, so the nature in the series -- all the forests and mountains -- must look very familiar to many Rusian viewers. This could be one of the reasons why they connect with "Supernatural".
