In that
2008 YouTube interview (at 3:04)
Wentworth Miller is asked whether he knows what nickname Chinese fans had given
him. Turns out, it is “Mi shuài”. The interpreter explains that it means
“Handsome Miller”.
“Shuài” stands for handsome, graceful, smart, cool, sweet and
refers to men
in most collocations.
Who could argue
against it?
In fact, his last name
sounds quite close to měi(lì), Chinese
for “beautiful” (with some metathesis), so probably this “mi”
relates to this word too, which could be a phonetic and lexical pun.
That’s funny.
(That’s why I
love fandom – it will make me explore things I’ve never done before, like
learning these two Chinese words).
